  1. Do you sell 4k or UHD (Ultra High Definition) footage?

Yes.  To search only for 4K/UHD footage go to the Advanced Search page and select the 4K/UHD resolution in the Format search box.  You may narrow your search by adding addition criteria.  We will also be providing demos and other information regarding 4K and UHD nature and wildlife footage at a sister website www.4knaturefootage.net.

  2. Why is location data often missing, especially from places in the United States that appear to be from National Parks.

In the early 2000s the United States National Park Service began requiring film permits.  However, there was much confusion and inconsistency within parks about implementing the regulations.  In some cases when we described the scope of our filming, i.e., a single person out for just a few hours they said don't bother.   However, in other cases such as at Yellowstone National Park they said a permit was needed for all commercial filming, so a permit was purchased.  Yet in our experience enforcement varied from ranger to ranger as we met them in the field.  In some cases a person filming with a DSLR for commercial purposes wasn't required to have the permit, but someone next to them filming with a dedicated video camera was expected to have a permit.  Further complicating management of our metadata was that some of our footage was acquired prior to the implentation of the regulations and some was acquired before the establishment of Pronghorn Productions and the intent to sell the footage, i.e., it was acquired for personal use.  On top of that, our record keeping wasn't always precise.  So rather than put you and us at risk we don't list location data if it might have come from a U.S. National Park and at this time we no longer anticipate collecting footage from U.S. National Parks.

  7. How do I search for footage?

Simply enter keywords in the search box at the top of the left column.  Species names (i.e., common names) are a good way to find footage.  You can also search by season (winter, spring, summer, fall), location, time of day (day, night, dawn, dusk, sunrise, sunset), gender (buck, doe, bull, cow, drake, hen, male, female), age (adult, young juvenile), group size (lone, pair, several, herd, family), activity (hunting, feeding, resting, nesting, fighting, grooming, walking, running, sleeping, mating, etc.), and special affects (e.g., time lapse, infrared, zoom, pan, slow motion, closeup, etc.).

For a more sophisticated search click the Advanced Search link in the upper part of the left pane to bring you to a full screen search page.  At that page you may use the box in the upper form using the same methods as described above.  Or you can use the lower search form using any combination of combo boxes and check boxes.  The lower form may also be used in combination with the upper form.  For example, in the upper form you may type moon and in the lower form you may select Big Brown Bat in the species combo box and XDCAM 1280x720 60p in the check box.  (Hint - all of the possible search terms are listed in one of the combo boxes or check boxes in the lower form.)
